Etched Stainless Steel Finishes
Etched stainless steel creates a graphic contrast between selected treated areas and the surrounding surface. Compare the patterned references, then discuss pattern scale, borders, base reflection and colour for your custom metalwork.

Understanding Etched.
Artwork, repeat size, pattern borders, base reflectivity and colour.
Appearance & process
Etched patterns are made by protecting selected areas of the stainless-steel surface and treating the exposed areas to remove a thin surface layer. The contrast between etched and unetched regions creates the visible design. A mirror or directional base and a colour treatment can form part of the chosen combination. This library currently retains nine Etched selection references.
Visual characteristics and advantages
The pattern adds graphic detail while retaining a relationship with the metal's underlying finish. Reflective and less reflective areas can define a motif without the pronounced formed relief of an embossed surface. The final contrast depends on the complete surface combination.
Selection considerations
Identify the required pattern direction, repeat scale, border and visible faces. Confirm whether the motif stops at an edge or continues onto a return. Artwork, base reflectivity and colour are agreed together. Keep the selected reference code with the artwork and project-specific specification.
Architectural applications
Discuss etched patterns for decorative wall panels, entrance features or framed metal elements in hotels, restaurants and commercial interiors. For a larger composition, show how motifs should relate to panel boundaries and openings. If a custom design is proposed, provide artwork for manufacturing review.
Fabrication considerations
Supply finished dimensions and identify visible faces, cut-outs and seams. Clarify whether a pattern is to extend onto returns or stop at a defined border. FABRITERA reviews the manufacturing details alongside the design reference. The mirror-gold fan-pattern sheet example below illustrates one decorative sheet specification; it is not a dimensional specification assigned to the nine library photographs.
Questions to help your selection
Is etched stainless steel the same as engraved metal?
The terms should not be treated as interchangeable. Etching selectively removes a thin surface layer; an engraving process may produce a different depth and result. Confirm the intended process and reference.
What information helps review a custom etched pattern?
Provide the artwork, finished panel dimensions, intended repeat size and border position. The pattern and fabrication requirements are reviewed before the project specification is agreed.
Care & protection
Request handling protection and cleaning instructions for the selected base finish, colour and any additional treatment. If an anti-fingerprint layer is desired, state it separately. Confirm the final artwork, appearance reference and component arrangement before production.
What to share with us
Send the selected reference code with a drawing, CAD file, rendering or reference image, approximate dimensions, quantity and intended environment. Mark the visible faces and explain how the component will be used. If you have a material grade, colour sample or cleaning requirement, include it. FABRITERA reviews the manufacturing details and confirms the agreed finish and colour reference for the proposed component.
